CELESTIAL SKYAll I ever remembered was a flash of white light.... and I was back to where I started.
I was holding a flower in my hand- a single rose encased in glass as big as my hand, kneeling on the dirt covered track of an abandoned lot of land that no one ever went to nor even cared to look at....
"Except for me?" I stood up in wonder as I dusted off my skirt and started to walk home. Questions started to whirl my mind as I looked at that rose. All I knew was that I DIDN'T have amnesia. I was absolutely positive, but what I didn't understand was why...
I was back to where I started, what reason I had for coming here, and why...
I had this rose.
Why was it encased in glass?
Why didn't it wither?
Why do I have this?
Why am I here?
Nothing made sense anymore.
My footsteps slowed down to a stop. The only thing I could do right now was to look down at my shoes, to try and understand why it led me this far. Worn up and beaten from all the years, my shoes were broken; just like this girl standing alone under a cloudy sky, about to rain or about to shine.
A wind slowly picked up, and the leaves around me danced, the trees swaying...
"Jade."A distant voice called out and I turned around. The voice resonated again and again in my head, playing a tune so familiar. It was something I seemed to recall and it strangely made me at ease, but I couldn't remember...
I felt a sudden pang of pain in my chest, as if my heart ceased to exist.
I held on the rose tighter and I lunged forward, running and running, looking for whoever might be there, looking for an answer to all this madness.
I continued to run in and out of tree branches, overgrown roots, barely missing cliffs and dead ends in the forest... only to be brought in deeper in its maze. I abruptly stopped, losing all hope as I gazed up at the rainy sky now covered by a thick canopy of trees.
The pain was worse than before, worse than an open cut, restraining my movements and my mere thoughts.
I watched the rose, blooming silently inside the glass on the palm of my hand.
Watching it slowly shed away its petals, one by one falling down to the bottom- the wind grew stronger and stronger....
"You've already tried hard enough, haven't you?Unwanted tears rolled down my cheeks. I furiously wiped them away, but they wouldn't stop.
I clasped my head,
"Stop..."
telling it to make it end...
"Stop!"
to make everything go away.
"STOP IT, I SAID!"
Why does it hurt me so much?
"I don't want to see you like this."But I don't want to hear this voice again either, no matter how much I longed for it.
It only made the throbbing worse, the pain in my heart unbearable. My eyesight unfocused, making everything around me dim... until I couldn't see anything..... but a broken piece of a forgotten memory.
"I'll give you this rose. As a gift....
So that even if you forget... even if time blows away every trace of me,
I'll always remember... and my heart will never change.
Just like this rose. It will never change."
"It never dies... Just like my love."
"No matter how different we may be, you taught me how to live...
how to smile...
How to love you like I do now."
I took a hold of my balance, resting my free hand on a tree trunk beside me. My breathing was laboured and my mind was in a complete disarray. I found it harder to breathe now, the facts harder to swallow... But everything became clear as I opened my eyes and listened intently in the deafening silence-
"I love you, Jade."-to the voice I thought I forgot.
"Goodbye forever..."I finally let go of the rose that I was holding, and the glass that encased it broke. It was now wet from my tears that started to fall on its own again as I collapsed down in the ground.
Holding the rose close to me, I buried my face on the forest floor whispering his name in vain...
"Grey."
Time was not infinite for both of us. He was an Angel destined to fly, to go back to where he truly belonged, a Fallen Angel...
struck by fate.
And yet, the rose never died. Its petals continued to shimmer under the celestial sky where destiny brought us together... only to part us again in a cruel game.
